East Mecklenburg High School’s AFJROTC cadets transformed Rama Road Elementary into a hub of energy and discovery during a JA in a Day school takeover through our High School Heroes program.
Cadets spent the day teaching JA’s full K–5 classroom program suite, immersive lessons that help young learners explore concepts like personal finance, civic engagement, innovation, community responsibility, and the world of work. In the weeks leading up to the event, they prepared carefully to deliver engaging, age-appropriate activities that spark curiosity and build confidence in the students they serve.

From kindergarten to fifth grade, Rama Road classrooms came alive with hands-on learning. Cadets guided students through activities that encouraged them to think about how choices shape their futures, how communities work, and how they can contribute their talents and ideas. The excitement was undeniable: students asked big questions, shared big dreams, and connected the lessons to their own lives.

For the high school cadets, the experience was equally meaningful. Through High School Heroes, they strengthen communication and leadership skills while discovering the impact they can have as mentors and role models.
We are grateful to East Meck AFJROTC and Rama Road Elementary for creating an inspiring day of connection, learning, and leadership. Together, they helped hundreds of young students imagine what’s possible, and showed what happens when youth lead the way.
