Ken holds a Bachelor's degree in Accounting, Wake Forest University. He began his career in public accounting with Arthur Andersen in 1976 in the New York office. He transferred to Raleigh in 1982 to help with the opening of the new office there. In 1986 Ken transferred to the Carolinas’ hub office in Charlotte. He became a manager in the audit practice in 1981 and a partner in 1987.
In 2002, Ken joined Grant Thornton along with approximately 250 other former Arthur Andersen professionals in the Carolinas. Ken oversaw the Carolinas’ audit practice through 2003. In 2004, he became the regional partner in charge of professional standards in the Southeast where he was responsible for technical accounting and auditing matters, quality control and risk management throughout the US Southeast region.
In 2006, Ken became the Global Leader – Assurance Services and a member of the 7-member Global Leadership Team which oversees the world-wide operations of Grant Thornton International.
Ken retired from public accounting in July 2016 after 40 years in the profession. During his career, he traveled to over 50 countries across all regions of the world. During his client service years Ken served multiple industries, including manufacturing and distribution, retail, utilities, healthcare, transportation, and telecommunications.
Ken is married with two children and four grandchildren, and his family is very much a part of his non-working life. He has played golf since the age of nine and spends much of his free time doing the same today. The Sharps have a lake house near Charlotte where they spend much of their free time relaxing, jet skiing and boating.
